Studio Practice (Foxglove Painting)

Image
These are my work in process photos of painting the foxglove. I started this process later then i wanted too and it also tock me a lot longer, my plant was to spend Monday on this painting, Tuesday on the next one and Thursday on the last one however i ended up working on this one painting all week - this meant i was unable to fully create what i wanted too as i had a lot left time to make the other two paintings. I believe this is because i spent more time to make it realistic, doing it one section of the plant at a time what tock a while to do, this is not how i normally paint so i was not aware this would take so long. I wanted to use this project as a small experiment on getting back into painting, over the process of making this one i relised while i really like how it came out, i did not enjoy this process due to the time - in the future i would want to slowly work on it over a month, while doing more lose paintings during the gap. I did not end up adding the second layer (oil pa...

Studio Practice (pencil underlayer for all)

Image
These are work in progress photos of me doing the under layer of the paintings. I wanted to mark out the shape after it was projected/traced, this was to help me better see the outlines as i could not see the pencil lines that well. I also wanted to loosely add the darkest and lightest parts of the plant, this process tock a lot longer then it should have as well as used a lot of my pencil, that I was not happy about as the whole thing would be covered in paint. I did like how this look, especially for the Oleander painting, I this would not work the project as there was no paint put under the painting, so i had to stick with my original plan. However, i would like to do this style again for another project, making sure to do a base painting under, and might use a similar thing on the oil pastel/pencil layer of the painting (after it been painted) Overall this was helpful for my painting but it did tack too long, in the future i would like to dine a different way to do this that does n...

Studio Practice (dig oleander)

Image
These are my digital compositions for the paintings of the Oleander flower. For this I used some photos i found online and traced them, I chose to trace over the photo due to the amount of time left to complete this project, so that I can spend more time on the painting it self, the text and how it will be display instead for spending more the time doing studies of the flowers, in the future i would like to allocate more time into drawing them myself, or using my own photos if possible (what was not for this project for the same reasons as well as blooming times) There are two photos two photos are just the line art, one being the original one and the other being the larger version. I chose to do the larger version from some advise Denis had given me, as well as for the chance I didn't end up adding text. The lager versions work well with and without text what is a better option for this project, as i am unsure if i will have enough time to complete everything i wish too. Along sid...
