Studio Practice - FMP project proposal notes
These are some notes and original proposal.
Exploring the world with a twist
For my FMP, i want to explore our world and create a twist, this being from the way I draw/paint it (extra, details, adding patterns...) or by creating my own fantasy world inspired by the world with live in as well as games, books and other forms of media. I am hoping to explore the world we live in, looking at both 'normal' elements (things that look like they are from earth) as well as elements of our world that don't look real, look like they from a different planet or are magical looking. I will use these research elements to twist into something new or as refencing in creating something new.
I would also like to see if I can add symbolism into this, maybe creating new plants by combining existing ones. From this they new plants will also have a meaning. I think will also be interesting to make my own symbols, or simple language inspired by our own magic (such as making own sigils, using existing ones, the 'witches language'). I find that using magical/spiritual elements of our world will also add an interesting element to my work. (it is something i would like to explore but unsure if i will end up doing it - if i do i want to take inspiration from it, but create my own version to remain respectful).
In terms of how I am going to show this, I want to explore ways to display my work as if it is a new finding, or how natural museums display their collections - could use some research done for the castle and also look at Wollaton Hall - I could also look into ways to over lap, having the real world and overlapping the fantasy world as if it is a parrel universe/as it the fantasy world is hidden behind a lens that can not be looked through.
(more new world route) Some ways i could explore this is buy laying, having one layer as the normal world and a second as the magical/fantasy version - creating new plants based on existing ones, this could also include adding symbolic meanings to them based on what the real ones symbolize - changing exiting things, by colour, pattern, texture... (for both if these i can explore different ways to display them, like making a ecological book or creating 3d models of them and displaying them like natural museums display their specimens - inspired by the imagine insects at Nottingham Castle) - Creating magical walks, going on a real walk, taking photos and adding magical elements to it.
(more on our world and changing small elements) Another way i would like to explore our world is just bye creating drawings, some being more realistic and some having extra elements to add more detail or pattern. I could also add small bits of extra colour, to make it seem a bit more magical/special then originally. I would like to make books for this, as i collect books on the natural world and it always been something i enjoyed. However, i am open to explore other routes but would like to start off with drawings and making books, inspired by ones i owe and ones i find both in person and online.
Some more specific routes i can go down is looking at plants that are at risk, looking at native plants or plants that help us (going more down into herbalism and symbolism of plants)
(note to self, look at the peices i created during a level, and taking inspo from them but the plants having more of a meaning then just a random one - maybe also look at what did during foindation dipoma, for the FMP)
I want to explore the natural world, being more focus on plants. I want to create different illuations and paintings, maybe also looking into prints and some other medians later into the project. I think it will be intresting to explore meanings behind plants, folklore as well as looking at plants used for healing, at risk plants, native plants or plants that alreadt look quite magical.
While creayting these works, i want to explore differnt ways of painting, adding new colours and pattens, experimenting with background and maybe making them abstract. I could also explore scale, making some tiny work and larger ones.
