 The last couple of weeks  April - May 2024 how many books I want to use - aiming at making 20 over the next 2 weeks - 10 suspension? - 5ish suspended and some on wall Suspension and on wall - on wall to make look like the books have been moved around or the portal appears in different places every time - non on the wall as it will be too much and look odd making frame base - turned out to be a too big - forgot to work out measurements with the pole - use fabric to make the over hang look better? how suspension - wire - how make wire pretty - warp the wire with some pre brought garlands and thin ribbon beads - random or patterned or both - unsure if a patterned one will still look natural and magical or not leanings more towards patterned as it would be easier for me to make them faster - patterned ones look more magical to me - its going to be different patterned so that they don't all look the same.

 Showing March - April 2024 How I could show my books On the wall add postcards along with the books - importance of words and stories? - put the words from the post cards onto books No - postcards doesn't make sense with the stories - adding too much and will look odd and not make sense suspension - plain - portal

 Changes April no illustrations - wants to spend my time more focused on my books, the portal and other elements of the insulation - insulations are a new thing i am learning and the illustrations also a new thing learn - want to focus on learning one thing at a time - can make it better quality no stories at all - naturally stopped doing it though focusing on the books them selves plan - beads to show magic and lights - cave or forest - leaning more towards a cave as it is a enclosed space

 Asking people how feel - beads May 2024 Likes clear beads more - looks like raindrops - generally Prefers smaller beads over the larger ones - generally Patterned - flowers better - focus on big to small Random  - looks better on own - patterned - looks better when they are all together - less chaotic Random - likes specific elements Patterned  - looks more magical

 Composition/final details May 2024 Use no fabric at top/little - i like the idea of using the fabric but it seems that it would be too complicated due to the wires - paint the plastic mesh so it doesn't stand out as much - add fabric on the top  I can do the fabric above the mesh, it might drop down a bit on the larger gaps + paint the mesh so it isn't black and stands out more Comp - used to be a circle going straight down - now a upside down triangle that meets in the middle - bead are more in a line, the longer ones being closer to the middle Pile of books in the middle - where books meet while falling - a light? lose peices of paper around the pile of books and under them

Brocken books When demolding some of the books the corners broke off, due to not much sticking to plaster I chose to use plaster to stick it together. I did have some issues with it sticking, so I scopped it onto the book and plan to sand it down Sanding - doesn't work well and takes alot of time to get a little amount done Speak with James - next time soak the peices before adding plaster as it would mean it can't soak up the water from the new plaster, making it easier to stick Sanding - due to the books being fully dry he recommended that I soak the books and then scrape the the book smooth Soaking and Sanding - I am able to use the spoon to get under the second layer of plaster and remove it without the corner falling off again

Change of beading Due to personal reasons, it has become more difficult to do the amount of beading i planed to do. I think it will be better to swap the amount of beads, changing it from mostly mine with dome pre made, to mostly pre made with some of mine. I want to focus more on thr colour versions of mine due to this, but I feel like this would be a better way for me to get the look I want with a more realistic time scale. I'm using a different garland for the wire. I plan to use one with clear beads as I feel like the pearls will draw too much attention to the wire and distract from the books I want to re buy the pearl garland and get a second one that has a similar pattern to the pearl one, this one I plan to be the one that is mostly on the wire with some strings dangling with the rest.

 Beads I want to use beads to add a magical, whimsical feeling to my instalation, using them to suggest magical partials. While I looking online at beads, I found some bubble looking beads however they are too small to use for my piece, as they are made for Nail art. I could not find a smiliar bead but larger, but I liked the look of pearls and the clear beads that have a iridescent look when in light.  Looking at pearls online, I found some pink ones and green ones that I like. However I feel like having both would look be too much Green - earthy - my preferred colour Pink- soft and subtle - Also likes this colour - seems more magical - more delicate looking I chose to use Pink beads along with white pearls and clear Blue? Use on elements to show the sky? - pink=magic blue=sky

 Mold making and experiments March - April Plaster mold for ceramic Plaster or ceramics - ceramics could look more pretty and can experiment with different glazes - plaster  can do more quicker, can add paper into it and not need to transfer the images on - want to use plaster as can do more experiments quicker and it still is strong. Plastic sheet books - 4 attempts - struggle with keeping the curve - the final two attempts have holes that will have to fill with clay - works for experiments but don't want to use for final mold Latex molds at home I wanted to do a mold similar to silicone that i could do at home however i didn't want to use silicone due to how much it would cost and i have no prior experience with making molds. I also wanted to use something that is more ecofriendly, after doing some research i chose to try making latex rubber molds. My first attempt at this didn't work, i used two complex shapes that ripped and my flat shape was too thin to keep it shape. ...

Retelling and story board March 2024 I would like to retell the stories that i plan to illustrate. I wish to do this so that the story matches the illustrations more than if i was just use the original story and the illustrations. I was planning on changing elements of the original to fit the illustrations, however i found that i was struggling with flow and working out how to word it do that it blends into the original. Due to this, i chose to retell the story fully, using the original as a guide with mine but using my own words. -I feel like my retelling has better flow and more emotions to it compare to adding elements to the original - classmate agrees. I have chosen to focus my time on one story over mutiple, i chose this due to the amount of time i have to work on this project and i want to make sure I still have a good quality of work over a bigger amount. I picked to focus on 'The Selfish Giant' as this is a story i read a lot as a kid and i had more inspiration and ide...

 Illustrations March 2024 I would like to illustrate existing stories, such as The Boy who Cried Wolf or The Fisherman's Wife, possibly changing some elements of the story to fit my subject more, such as instead for a wolf it could be a slug, what eats mushrooms. I would like to look at some of the stories i read as a child to illustrate. This is the start of the styling process for the background/landscape of the images. For the 'people' in these stories i want to make my own creatures with natural elopements such as rocks, trees and mushrooms. I wish to focus more one the mushroom ones as i enjoy and have confidence drawing mushrooms normally and feel like i would find it easier to make more human like and learn how to create human like motions with something i feel like can draw normally.
