Studio Practice

2ish weeks of work (edit - work i did between the talk with my partner and a talk with Julian)

These are the sketches I have done over the past two weeks (not a lot due to personal reasons and having other things i needed to focus on). During this time I i started to look at some photos for inspiration/to use in my work as well as some ideas on what to do with them.
These are some sketches/photos of an abandoned prison found in the middle of a field, outside of Barton, Arkansas. These photos was taken from Flickers by the photographer phiZzL3. My goal was to look at how prisons look and find a way to add my twist to them. I chose to work on top of these photos (tracing paper/other transparent paper on top of them) too add the life images. I could work on top of the existing photos or work on top of my own paintings/illustrations of these photos or my own photos.
This is some small experiments i did, working on top of tracing paper that is over the original photos, I used a mix of coloured pencil and some paint pens. I am more drawn to the one of the sink and the bars, then the one of the room. This could be cause i have more confident making something with the other two then i do with making something with a full room. I like the nature element of the bar one and well as the water in the sink, as well as the pattern look they both have, the plants creating a pattern on the bars and the water having a pattern within it. I am lean more towards the sink idea one as i like experimenting with making pattern to show water (i have experiment with this in older projects), and i can add other elements to the sink such as clothing or food being washed. I also feel like either though both the plants and water bring life, that the water bring more life to the building. I feel like this along with adding food or clothing will make it seem more like someone is living here then the plant do, as the plants could be growing with or without someone there while the food and clothing in sink (with running water) is very unlikely to happen without someone. - It is also more fun to make

These are close up photos of each experiment.
I like the idea of using more bright colours on my twist as a way to be more playful and have a bigger contrast between the two images. I can also do this by the original having no colours or extremely dull colours and the twist having colour.
