Talk with Julian - After 2 week break

Today I had another talk with Julian, this time on my new ideas I had over the 2 week break. In this talk he spoke about insulations, filming/photographing myself and making of things. This was a useful talk and helped me have more ideas on how i can develop my work.

While showing some of the photos i been looking at, he recommended going to the Gallery of Justice to take some photos there and maybe talking to someone on being able to get in for free - as i am there for more then a visit (he also said that it is okay to use someone else photos in my work). Julian also said about finding our who their curator is and contacting them on doing a small insulation there, this would be a fun thing to do but due to the time we have I don't think i will move forward with this idea.
(edit 14/11/2004 - I think i will see more on exploring this idea, seeing if they have a sink in a cell that i could do an insulation in - moving an existing piece into the cell with minor change (change more likely will be related to different sizing) but I am less focus on this, an option if have the time to explore.)
Things I could do - arrange fruit/veggies in the cell - make a plush tomato plant and wrap around bar - film myself putting this up or doing something else in the cell (I don't want to film myself but i could look into filming someone else)

Julian also spoke about relating my idea to a local story of someone who been wrongly accused. He told me about a man who refused his last drink on his way to being hung, and if he didn't refuse this drink another man would have got to him before he was hung, bringing a document that proved him as being innocent. Due to him refusing his last drink, this other man never got to him in time and he ended up being hung. Julian also said to talk to people who work at the Gallery of Justice and find other people, or look online to find some people, keeping the stories local to Nottingham.

He said about looking at outcast and putting symbols that shows someone as one on myself (or other people) - I could look into making my own symbols that show being an outcast as well. I like this idea however I am more interested in other ideas and want to focus on those ones.

Julian also mentioned making things, like plush veggies or sewing into photos. I like this idea and I am more interested in doing this. Looking at pattern and texture in my work as well as layers. It will be fun to explore other ways i can do this, maybe looking at ways i can suggest my symbols through pattern and texture.
