Ideas/Sketches after my first full talk with Julian

These are the sketches and work I have done after having my first talk with Julian (just before we broke up for 2 weeks). This work has been a mix of just putting my ideas onto paper as well as a small experiment with an idea. 


These are notes I tock after having the talk.
This is a small experiment with using different colours to mean different things, using bamboo as my subject matter.

This is some sketches I did in relation to the small experiment I did with making a Teru Bozo doll (unsuccessful) and a paper/tape mock up of a small man plus tattoo design for this man. My plan was to show two sides, one side of the doll being positive meaning and the other side being negative however i only ended up doing one side of the doll.

These are some materials I collected around the studio to use in my experiment, as I wanted to work with found materials for this mini experiment. (this small experiment was done after the chat with Julian, so that chat and ideas coming g after the chat (such as using found materials) influenced what i did)

This is the small experiment i did inspired by a Teru Bozo doll, where i used some oil pastels to draw bamboo onto fabric - this did not go well, more likely due to not having the proper materials to do it

With the base i used for the Teru Bozo doll (the ball made from paper and tape) I made a small man and drew on a tattoo design of a cat and peony on. I then used some white and light cream oil pastels on to of the images and face to make it blend into the body more, making it less bold. I enjoyed making this doll and like the final outcome of the body however i do not like the design i made, it feel too plain and not in the style i normally make things. I like the overall size and portions of this doll, it feeling nice when you hold it, giving some comfort what is an idea i mentioned exploring at the beginning of the brief.

Putting up show day 1 3rd June 2024 Today was my first official day of putting up the show, I wanted to focus on cleaning out my area, adding the mesh and fabric to the frame and putting the frame up. What I was able to complete  I realise that I put the mesh on the wrong way, but j was able to fix the issue buy flipping the frame before I put tje fabric on. My original plan of having the hook things for the books will not work, due the the fabric being in the way. I chose to do tie fabric tight and didn't realise that I wouldn't be able to put the wire between the fabric and the frame. I plan to put the hook things on the under part of the frame or on the inside edge I don't like the sag that is happening to the mesh, I plan to sew it to the fabric once the beads have been hung, so that it will have a more clean and finish look to it Before I headed home, I did some lose draping of the fabric so that I have a bett...

 Project proposal  My plan for this project, is to explore a made-up counterculture around the idea of taking back control/identity from those who are in authority. This counterculture can be seen in both a negative and positive late, as the people reclaiming their power have been labelled as criminals. On one hand, this could be viewed as in a negative way as the people/criminals deserve the punishment they received, making it seen as unjustified for them to take back their freedom. But it can also be seen as everyday people reclaiming what was unjustly taken from them—those who were wrongfully accused, committed crimes out of necessity to survive, or became victims of their circumstances, not intending harm or feeling remorse for what they did, or simply making a mistake. I will be taking inspiration from Japanese criminal tattoos from the Edo period, which were used to mark someone as a criminal. Looking at two early works of Modernism (600-700 word) - 856 words total In this essay, I will examine two early Modernist movements, Fauvism and Cubism. Although both of these movements involve abstraction, they each emphasize different elements within their paintings. Fauvism focuses on colour while Cubism has a focus on form. Modernism is a global movement within the art community that emerged around the 20th century. Modernism is defined by artists who broke away from patron demands, forming the Avant-Garde. Modernism artists creates art based on their own vision, challenging social expectations and exploring new ideas and techniques that was once unachievable. The Industrial Revolution played crucial a role in this shift, as cheaper materials, like synthetic dyes, made it easier for artists to produce their work independently of patron support.
