Final Evaluation
At the start of this project I wanted to do something more illustration, as I haven't done much traditional work (drawings/paintings/2d) this year, it being something I normally lean towards. However, as the project progressed I began to lean more towards making something 3D, with my hands, and didn't have much interest in illustrating stories like i originally did.
I wanted to put the illustrations/stories onto some solid books, as i was experimenting with the idea of using ceramic to suggest the importance/permeance of words, inspired by stone carvings, in the previous project. At the beginning I was planning on using either ceramic or plaster for this, in the end i chose to use and focus on using plaster. This was due to the amount of time I had to make my books and the speed i can make them. I didn't do any ceramic experiments, only making the plaster mold for it, but from looking and using ceramic before the ceramic option would more likely have gone down a more earthy tone then the soft, pastel look i ended up. I feel like the use of plaster was a bit reason i went down the soft, pastel look over a more earthy tones my work normally go down, this was likely due to the plaster being white as well as the original beads i wanted to use looking like bubbles.
I went through different ways of making the mold, landing on using a gelflex mold that i would then make a cover for the book. I did have some minor issues with this, such as some acrylic paint being stuck to the mold and some small imperfections, However, this didn't effect my books too much and i was able to work around the issues.

The blank books further suggest the idea of my installation being the origin place of books, suggesting that the books have yet to formed a story. With the idea of how books shape people, it could also show the begging of someone's story, the 'birth' of a person beginning. This could have been suggested more if i kept the blue books, as the combination of baby blue and pink seemed like a baby shower. I also like the simple look of the plain books, it being less distracting then if i was too add something written onto it. It also gives the viewer the space to project there own ideas onto it, as i have been told by some people that they see it as something magical or religious (like a book that would be at the gate of heaven).
I have overall enjoyed this process, i ended up making something i did plan to make at the begging of this project as well as something i never expected to make. I am overall happy with my final outcome however i feel like i didn't have the best time management. If i was to do this again, i would try and better manage my time as well starting the putting up process earlier then i did.
