Artist who work ontop of photograpths and artist who work with the concept of ghosts in a playful, childlike way.

Angela Deane
Deane paints simple ghosts figures on top of found photographs. She works with the idea of a momenent in time dying but yet still being pesant, her work being about time, memory and nestigia. In her way of painting over the figures in the paintings, she gets rid of their idenity as well as the memory the photo is showin or hold however she does create a sense of courosirty to her images. She also makes room for people to let their imagination to run wild. Despite her work getting rid of a personal element to it, it still creats a story. With her use of a simple, plain form she creates can create a sense of familarity to her work for some viewers, as they can project their personal memories onto the images due to the lack of orignialoty between the figures.
She has also added faces onto plant life, that has a whimical silly look. These peices reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. She has also doen pieces similar to her ghost photos, but instead of painting ghosts ontop of the photos she painted aliens.
I chose to look at Deane's work as I want to expeiremnt with the ghost form, apart of my experimentaion being done ontop of photos. I also like the playful look her work have, being more fun, as well as the childish cartoon look of her ghosts. From plain body and black dot eyes. I like Deane's combination of creepy and cute. Her work also links to the theme of the exibition, being the unknown idenity of the sitter, as Deane gets rid of the idenity in her work by covering it.

John Baldessari
Baldessari has painted ontop of found photos like how Deane has, however John has used a more abstarct route for his work, where he used colourful dots to hide the idenieity/faces if the people in the photos.
His work relates to mine as we both are painting ontop of photos in a way that hide the sitters indeity, as well as out use of bright coloiurs to do this. However he useses found photos to do this whereas i am using my own photos.

Gerhard Richter
Richter has a photograpthy based project where he painted over photographs in a bright colours, he also done some in greys and whites.
Richter's work relates to mine, from the use of painting over photograpths however his work does not have a more concept relations to mine, just a tedchinical relasion. However he has some some images that the paint has covered faces of people, these peices link to mine in a more concept way due to the lost idenity of the people in the photos due to him added onto them.

Adam Handler
Handler creates ghost paintings in a creepy, cute way. He uses bright colours and paints his paintings in a more kidway.
His work relates to my work as we are both using the figure of a ghost in a more kid like way, his work being more kid like unlike my work is currently.
